Phil Stubbs is a trainer with a knack for putting the whole, complicated world of digital media in plain language. An ability kindled through a unique combination of experience in advertising, education and new media.
Phil worked in advertising agencies in Sydney, including The Campaign Palace. An agency highly regarded for its strategy and creative work. His corporate clients have ranged from a national hotel chain (Rydges Hotels) through to packaged goods (Oil of Ulay.) Charities have included Outward Bound and the RSPCA. In recent years, he’s turned his attention to helping to promote small businesses, creative startups and causes. Over his career he’s also practised journalism and PR and worked with leading practitioners in these fields.
Phil has extensive experience in teaching – including many years in Communication Schools at universities in Australia. He set up practical advertising courses at Charles Sturt University and the University of Western Sydney. He began teaching social media at uni in 2009 and by the end of the year had won the UWS Vice Chancellor’s Award for his work. Phil has also taught Content Marketing at General Assembly in Sydney.
Phil has been working with social media, podcasting and blogging since 2007. In 2008 his podcast and blog reached number 4 of the News & Politics section of Apple’s itunes store. Since 2011 he’s helped over 500 people from a range of corporates, causes, and small businesses learn how to get their social media platforms going.
Phil is keen to help people learn how to use new media to promote their creative projects, build their personal brand, and carve out a new niche for themselves online.
His own personal interests and projects revolve around how digital media can help promote positive change in the world. As well running an environmental blog and podcast, he’s used digital marketing to establish a green networking group in Sydney (GreenUps), another internationally (Green Communicators), and to help promote a change of thinking in his local community (Clovelly East Village).
Phil’s passion for making a mark in the world – and his experience using digital media to do it – was the catalyst for making the leap from teaching at university to set up his own business to help others.
